As a law enforcement agency, the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney requires a Division that is in constant conversation with Vanderburgh County law enforcement. The Investigation Division works both independently and with other law enforcement agencies to gather supplementary information and evidence in criminal investigations.
Members of the Investigation Division assist in local law enforcement investigations and have full police powers. This unit is comprised of five investigators who receive and follow up on criminal complaints made by the public which are not handled by local law enforcement agencies. Criminal charges may arise from these complaints. The Division also conducts independent investigations, at the direction of the Prosecuting Attorney.
Like all law enforcement agencies, the Investigation Division receives cases through prescribed channels. Whether working on a current criminal case or a cold/unresolved homicide, the Investigation Division appreciates any information the public can provide.
